Award-winning Ph.D. project in collaboration with Sjørring

Ph.D. student Matei Sarivan has won first place in the Otto Mønsteds Fond MADE Award 2022 with his Ph.D. project. The concept is expected to further automate the production at Sjørring, which was the industrial partner in the project.

For several years, we have been working on digitization and automation. Digital solutions are the future, says our CEO Klaus Kalstrup - even when the final product is made of black steel and used in a quarry or at a waste disposal site. Therefore, the buckets we manufacture are increasingly being optimized for welding in welding robots. But it’s not without its challenges.

Leading the way in automation

The purpose of Matei's now award-winning Ph.D. project is to solve the challenges of streamlining and automating the programming of welding robots.

Matei has developed a concept that optimizes and automates programming by using the technical welding data that already exists in our construction drawings. To make the programs as precise as possible, Matei has added a complex system of special cameras and lasers.

"Our mantra at Sjørring is to stay out in front - and we mean it. In every way. Matei's first place in this year's MADE Awards is a testament to our focus on being at the forefront of the development and implementation of future digital technologies," says CEO Klaus Kalstrup.

First place for the second time

This is the second time that we have served as an industrial partner in a Ph.D. project that has won first place in the Otto Mønsteds Fond MADE Award. And we won’t be hesitant to participate in more similar collaborations with relevant partners:

"Development is a crucial factor for a production company like ours. We’re happy to participate in collaborations and to make our company, experience, and knowledge available for the development of new technologies," concludes Klaus Kalstrup.
